For some reason units can’t use these either, and to add insult to injury when I took manual control of the aircraft I couldn’t fire them either, despite having a target locked.

TV missiles for one, which I guess seems fair enough but if you’re lacking for other ordnance it would be nice to have the option for AI to use them at least. At this point I have to say I prefer the original game’s system: build what you like, but you have to balance the ratio of factory to supply to defense islands.Īlso there are some weapons which just can’t be used by the AI. It’s bullshit that I’ve taken the trouble to capture two munitions factories and all I can make now that I couldn’t before is ammo for a gun I don’t even have (and may not even get in this campaign). I flat out hate the randomised blueprint system. Ok I’ve posted a lot of positive stuff about this game so far. That will allow direct shipments from the factory to the carrier (useful for fuel) you can assign a barge to an island and drag that factory island to the carrier.The patrolling unit will attack at that waypoint and then return to the patrol without affecting the prior waypoints. If you have a patrol route, you can drag from one of the waypoints to attack a target.It can then drop it via waypoint orders similarly to virus bot deployment. You can drag a Petrel to a ground unit and it will airlift it.One of the biggest crimes of this game is how little is explained. Especially if you’re liberal with carrier weapons on the early islands. But that starts to run out as you get to islands 7+. You have a fair amount of “juice” at the beginning of the campaign. But as the transmission said, Monte Carlo simulations project 70% of captains will have major logistical problems as the campaign progresses. Three and four shield islands are much tougher of course. The first handful of islands do play very similarly yes. Unfortunately that airframe island you captured can only make you razor bills. Until the CIWS turrets which are nearly invisible shoot them down. High altitude albatross loitering is effective. Until you run out of ammo, and you don’t have the requisite blueprint to make more. I find that the gun works better for this, with missiles saved for airborne threats that are out of the range of my carrier’s AA missiles.Ĭarrier weaponry is super effective. Oh, and as for that annoying Walrus attack I talked about yesterday it hasn’t happened again but now I generally mop up any Walruses with an Albatross long before any Seals get there. It makes things a lot easier for amphibious vehicles.

That reminds me, I find it useful to park the carrier with the rear pointed toward the island. Very useful, except when you forget about it and leave your carrier spinning in slow circles (so a friend tells me…). Then I realised, if you want to make a big turn you can just set the rudder all the way to the side then engage the steering lock. Some players have reported aircraft crashing into the deck but that hasn’t happened to me once - although as a precaution I always stop the carrier when something is about to land.įor a while I stupidly wondered what the difference between steering lock and maintain heading is. The AI could do with some tweaking but for the most part it’s actually working quite well. In fact I haven’t even tried multiplayer yet. I’m still having an absolute blast and, so far, it’s still perfectly viable solo. In my latest game I have five islands and am actually keeping pace with the enemy carrier for once. Probably my most satisfying kill to date. Sure enough, the torp whistled past the bit of land before activating, spotting the Swordfish, and driving straight for it. So I aimed a torpedo past the obstacle and gave it a long arming time. Today I saw a Swordfish parked next to an island but part of the island was between us. Hangars cannot be destroyed, but when an island isn’t on alert all the aircraft will be parked inside. Very useful for fixed wing aircraft because they do tend to wander quite far afield if given no orders. I discovered today that in the vehicle control console you can click on the carrier to see at a glance what’s deployed, and brilliantly, even deploy vehicles - you get to set the initial waypoint. Some more observations/tips in no particular order.
